I notice
you

a cardinal
among sparrows,
sifting through
the first snow.

red
as death
in a sea of birds
homogeneous.

difference
seems dangerous
from afar:

when birds used to migrate
you could never come.

but
forget the flock.

none
have worn winter
as you.
